For over a thousand years it has been common knowledge that the origin of the word Easter, and it's symbols, came from pagans of the English Isles and surrounding areas. It has been accepted that the Church used that religious observance to assimilate the indigenous culture into the Christian culture and the observance of the Ressurection of our Lord. The origin for our thoughts about Easter appears to have come solely from some writings of the Christian historian St. Bede, The Venerable. c.AD 700 . Yet, this has been the only source for the early and enduring beliefs regarding Easter.
